Did you try this on Windows 2000/2003 server? or you are trying this on windows Xp?
If you are trying on Windows Xp, then it's not possible because it is a component of server OS but Xp is a client OS!

Dear Rashid,
yes, we can do the networking without domain. WORKGROUP which is the opposite to domain....
please tell me your requirement, so i shall tell you the exact procedure for networking. (means how many computers, did you want to share printer or any other resources)
